What’s the deal with guest bloggers?

February 29th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Main

Guest bloggers

I’m sure a lot of you have seen many blogs with “guest” bloggers, in fact, it seems to be all the rage these days. As this blog is geared toward newbies, I thought I’d take a minute to delve into the phenomenon that is guest bloggin’, and why it can be such a benefit to you and your blog.

The guest blogger

Being a guest blogger is beneficial for a couple reasons. The first being, you get your name out there. One thing that’s important for you as a blogger is to develop brand recognition.

Just as when you hear the word Pepsi you immediately think of a soft drink,Microsoft conjures thoughts of software, Toyota - cars, and so on, when someone sees your name or your blogs name you want them to immediately think of you. This is something John chow and Shoemoney have done very well in, developing their brand recognition, and is essential to becoming more than just another average blog.

In addition to developing your brand, guest blogging also provides another way for people to discover your blog. In almost all guest blogging situations you will be allowed to provide a link to your own blog, and many blogs that have guests that frequently post for them put up a profile page with the guest bloggers info including links to all the posts they have guest blogged in the past and a link to the guest blogger’s own blog (this backlink will also help the guest blogger’s natural or “organic” search engine results!)

So, as a guest blogger you you gain: Exposure, branding, incoming traffic to your blog, and potentially better search engine results through the added backlinks to your blog. If you are presented with the opportunity to guest blog - do it!

The Guest Bloggie

Having guest bloggers on your blog is beneficial for a few reasons too. The first and foremost, you get free (unless of course you’re paying the guest blogger) and relevant content on your blog.

One factor to having a successful blog is posting consistently (something I have admittedly been slacking in :-( ). There is very little debate that in order to have a successful blog you need to have in the range of 1-3 posts EVERY SINGLE DAY. Coming up with this much relevant content can be challenging.

Another benefit to having a guest blogger, is the second opinion your blog now has. It can be refreshing to offer your readers more then just your opinion on the subject(s) your blog focuses on.  The guest blogger can provide more value to your reader in this manner.  As the old adage goes; “two heads are better than one”.

I win, you win, we all win for… Or something like that…

If you’re looking for a way to help your blog find more exposure, add content to your blog, increase your search engine results, and help to create a brand name for yourself, consider inviting someone to guest blog for you and offer to guest blog for someone else.  it really is a Win-Win for all involved!

Ty, to have few guest blogger is good but I think I will go for it after few months. By the way, when I visited blogcarnival.com, I found they are offering to give their logo to be on our site. When I went there, I saw “Cut and paste this HTML code into your website”. How to do this cutting and pasting? Mine is wordpress. You already know by now that I am worse than a layman. Kindly guide. Thanks,

Sorry, sorry. In the earlier comment, I asked how to cut and paste. Actually, I want to know, after cutting it, how to paste it in my website?
