Bowling anyone? It’s addictive… (and could make you a millionaire)

March 11th, 2008 · 3 Comments · All, Marketing, inspiration

Never underestimate the importance of sheer entertainment value

I’ve been visiting this blog, Joetech.com, that has two little slots games you can play. You can win a text link to your blog/site on one of the game pages (jackpot wins a banner ad!) or you can win some Entrecard credits on the other. It’s fun. I’ve won a couple text links, and even a couple Entrecard credits (only 4 credits though, not really worth emailing Joe to collect on).

I have to admit, I’ve been back to his site like 20 times in the last few weeks. Just to play some slots, with bad graphics. Why? Because, it’s fun. It kills 30 seconds. It’s easy. Hey, I might hit the jackpot and actually win a banner ad!!!

Always be thinking about ways to improve your marketing

What a great freekin’ idea this guy Joe had. How clever. And if you look at the text links slots game you’ll see it’s been played over 35,000 times! It really got me to thinking how many blogs I read and sites I visit just for the sheer entertainment value of it.

Now I can’t program my own custom game, so I doubt we’ll see TySlots anytime soon. Plus I’d have to come up with something original. How lame would I be if I copied his idea after blogging about it?… Well… come to think of it, not lame at all. I just need to find a way to make it my own. Improve upon the idea. Build a better mousetrap so to say.

With this in mind I will be on the lookout for unique ways I too can add to the sheer entertainment value of this blog. Give you just one more reason to come back. One more reason to tell your friends about me. On more reason to write some post about how creative and clever I am, and how you like to kill time on my site.

I think that’s something you can do too… Yup, I’m pretty sure you could. Just gotta keep your eyes peeled and your minds open. You never know where you’ll find inspiration or ideas, but you’ll never see them if you don’t look - they really are everywhere. Now go out there and come up with the next pet-rock, hula-hoop, Facebook, or yourblog.com - it’s up to you how it turns out.

Now, who wants to bowl?

(Note to my RSS reader - there’s a game to be played below this on my blog ;-)

Thanks for the mention. To be fair, it was really Jason Boom of JasonBoom.com who came up with the idea and I just nailed down the details and wrote the code. Love the bowling. It takes a minute to figure out when you don’t read the instructions.

Yeah I didn’t read the instructions either and hit no pins my first 3 gos. Thanks for the bowling game. Now I’m off to check out Joe’s slots.
