Alexa, oh the great Alexa
We all know that Alexa is pretty much the standard for how people (and potential advertiser) view your site’s traffic. Alexa bases your traffic rank on total visitors AND total page views per visitor. It’s the combonation of the two that determine your overall ranking.
The higher your Alexa ranking the more valuable many consider advertising on your blog to be worth. Additionally, some affiliate programs, paid review programs, and other monetization sources will not let you participate if you don’t have a certain Alexa ranking (usually 100k or lower) so it’s important you do whatever you can to increase it.
Besides just your ranking number, potential advertisers may look at how many pages are viewed per visitor. More page views = more ad impressions per reader = more opportunity for potential customers to click through to the advertiser’s site.
Want a better Alexa ranking and more page views per visitor?
One simple action can help both!
Besides just increasing your blog’s overall traffic through marketing and other sources you can help increase your ranking and page views with one simple step…
Here’s my advice: in every post you write, include as many links as possible to other posts you have that may be relevant.
This is really easy to do and it also allows you to “sell” your other posts. As you can see, I’ve done it in this post twice already.
That’s it - it’s couldn’t be easier. I suggest you include the links as you write your post, and then take a moment when you first proof read it to think of any other posts that my be relevant to the text of that new posts and insert links where appropriate. You may have to do just a little re-writing so the links truly belong and everything looks natural but it’s well worth the time.
Another suggestion I have for you to potentially add even more page views is, rather than just linking to one post, link to a group of posts (link to a relevant search result, or tag word group). The link above in the “increasing your…” sentence actually links to the tag word “marketing”, so anyone who click it will be presented with several article that are relevent. Hopefully they’ll read more than one and I’ll get 3+ page views from this one article!
Now go add some links to your old posts!

I agree with you 100%. As soon as I started adding some links to previous posts, my page views have gone up. Just another note, using the Alexa toolbar also increased your ranking pretty well. The key is to get as many of your readers as you can to use it.

You’re totally right. In fact I created an Alexa toolbar with a link back to my blog built right in yesterday. Check it out: http://www.alexa.com/site/download/?amzn_id=tysblcom-20
I’m still just trying to figure out how I’m going to promote it…

Not to mention, deep linking is awesome for SEO with Google.

This is good advice, but shouldn’t the true author be credited for this advise?
Content is hard enough to create so that it is original, and it is ok to use other’s content, as long as it has either been granted, or at the very least credited to the original author.
Which a better, detailed post on this matter is located here… http://myradicalblogs.com/index.php/category/blogging/

Um, are you saying I stole your work? I’ve actually never been to your blog, but I did check it out just now, and didn’t see anything like this post, unless you’re referencing your post on increasing your Alexa rank? The one in which you conclude:
“Conclusion. To get your Alexa down to need to attract traffic. How you do that is up to you. You can buy it, you can attract it or you can bribe it - just be sure it is the type of traffic that will be using the Alexa toolbar. ”
Are you saying I stole your idea to write about increasing your Alexa rank? I’m pretty sure it’s been written about many times before your’s or my posts…
Haven’t you seen the South Park episode “the Simpson’s already did it”?

SmartShop reply on March 28, 2008:
No, not at all. Just commenting on the material, which I read elsewhere a couple of weeks ago… and I may have included a wrong category link in the previous post, we don’t watch South Park in our household, so I’m sorry to say I didn’t see the episode.

Ty Hurd reply on March 28, 2008:
Fair enough, but I’m sure there are many similar posts, each with their own take on it. It’s not uncommon knowledge… This was just my take on it.
Good, south park sucks. But it does reference how the Simpson’s have already done every conceivable show idea. You see, Butters , aka. Professor Chaos, was bummed, as every plot he conceived to doom the poor hick town of South Park, had already been done on a Simpson’s episode. But in the end, they learned something. That’s its okay to do something that has already been done as long as you make it your own.
The fact is, all idea’s are done a million times over, it’s just how they’re done…
If someone is going to write a blog about only subjects that haven’t been covered already, I think they may find difficulty posting everyday (or ever).

SmartShop you may have read something similar, but I checked the article you linked to and can assure you that it is NOT the same. of course they look alike, they both talk about Alexa and how to increase your rankings. It’s like buying two news papers tomorrow morning and call one of them that there is an similar article in another newspaper you read earlier that morning… both write about the same thing “important news that happened yesterday”…
All I’m trying to say is that since the printing press came out, then a typewriter, then the computer, then the internet. with each step it became a little more difficult to write 100% original material..nowadays it is almost impossible like you said, it does not mean that occasionally two different bloggers write about the same subject with the same words. go on google and search for “alexa increase ranking” and I’m sure you will find some other articles that talk about the same, and probably are similar.. but still unique! like this article!
