Get an overview of how much your blog is worth and see how far
you’ve come!
I recently did a report of how much progress I’ve made with this blog since it’s inception and a follow up post of how I did it. One thing I didn’t include to quantify my progress is my DNScoop.com report. It slipped my mind to add it to the list of measurable data.
For those unfamiliar with DNScoop.com, it’s a site that is kind of the authority of on placing an exact dollar value on any particular URL. It bases it’s estimation on a number of factors including: Links, Traffic (Alexa), age of the domain, site category, domain keyword popularity, and overall occurrences of the domain name on the web.
They also host a marketplace to buy and sell established domain names. You’d be surprised how many URL’s are bought and sold and the amount certain domain names go for.
And TysBLog.com is worth?…
Well, here’s the widget they offer once you’ve checked your URL:
Wow, $3,400! Seeing this give me such a feeling of accomplishment, and a boost of motivation to keep moving forward. My model for this blog doesn’t really include monetizing it until I’m receiving at least 40,000 uniques and 100,000 page views per month. This is my goal for three months online (I’m well on my way too!). For now my efforts are going into building a viewer and RSS subscriber base only. After all, if I really want to make decent money with this blog, I have to provide a good value to potential advertisers. It is nice to see that my efforts are paying off and that I’ve created something with real monetary value (I am making a small amount right now, but that’s not in my goal (just icing on the cake)).Just a fun way to see your efforts quantified. Check out DNScoop.com and you may see that all your hard work really is paying off
.

Stumble it! Thanks!

3k… $94,112…
But, is that a real market value price? Who’s going to pay it?
I don’t mean that in a negative way, but to me, a blog’s worth is based on the cashflow it generates. Our blog is worth -$263 because our advertising costs exceed our commissions.
But we’re new and small. What’s the best way to build traffic? We’re thinking about running a contest and trying to figure out whether they work or not. (Heck, at this point, we’re even offering $5 for people to leave a comment on our site.)
Sigh. I wish it was easy as those big font, one-page landing sales site make it seem.
