ThemeLab.com - reviewed

ThemeLab.com - great themes - personal service - free? That’s what they say. Here’s my review.

Themelab

ThemeLab.com is a blog I’ve actually been watching for a while. I first came across ‘em about 6 weeks ago and have been back many times. So when I was asked to do this review, I jumped at it.

Besides just being a great overall blog focusing on WP advice they create great WordPress Themes and offer personalized tech support with each one. Best part? Everything on ThemeLab.com is free.

I was just at ThemeLab prior to doing this review to make sure I was current on their content and layout, etc… And have to say they offer some great resources in a format that’s well put together.

And before I go any further I have to say the URL “themelab.com”, is great. Easy to remember, relatively short, and descriptive. A perfect URL. Thinking like this when you first start a blog and find your niche is essential. ThemeLab.com gets an A+ for the domain name.

So what’cha, what’cha, what’cha, want? (um, beastie boys anyone 8) )

ThemeLab.com offers 37 premium themes ranging the gamut in styles and designs. They have a nice little feature to browse their catalog via a little widget in the lower right of the screen, you can just click from theme to theme to check ‘em out. Easy.

If you want a theme for a starting blog or as an upgrade to an existing blog, I would suggest you mosey over to ThemeLab.com yourself. You can also check out their blog and see some good examples of how themes can be customized into something totally unique. I’m sure if you mod or customize any of their themes they’d be happy to put in their showcase too!

In addition to the themes ThemeLab offers some good posts on Wordpress plugins, tutorials, and news.

Support

I wanted to see what level of support you could expect was so I checked out their support forum. Um, there really aren’t any support requests.  I first though this must be because they’re new, but discovered they’re not really that new. According to DNScoop.com, they launched in June of last year. With over 2700 downloads and only a few support requests, I would say it looks like ThemeLab.com creates clean scripts that work right the first time (or are evil and delete support requests twisted).

Since there weren’t many support request to check out I decided to just do a screenshot of the longest thread there.ThemeLab Forum

Great! Looks as if there is an issue, there’s help to be had.

So?

Overall, I totally endorse ThemeLab.com. I think they have excellent potential and look forward to their offerings as they grow. Additionally, I’ve been in touch with the brains behind ThemeLab.com, Leland, with questions of my own, and he’s been a great person to deal with. Friendly, prompt, always willing to help, I mean what more could you be looking for?

There’s a reason ThemeLab.com is in my blogroll…
Check ‘em out, tell ‘em I sent ya, and enjoy your new theme!

Thanks Ty! Great review and I’ll be heading off to their site next. Just wanted to finish your post in case there was a p.s. Also never actually thought about it before but you are right… and EMPTY support forum, for a website that’s been around for a while, is a GOOD thing :)

    Thanks again!
