As I mentioned in my first progress report I will be doing monthly progress reports at the beginning of every month. With that I’m please to post my progress report for the month of March
March Statistics
There’s no need to do two lists as I did in my last progress report (a starting list, and an ending list). You can view my old data in parenthesis. Below are my current stats for the month of March.
- Total Visitors for the month of march: 22943
- Total Page views for the month of March: 56950
- Alexa:
- 3 mo. average: 154,673 (vs. 254,060 on 3/19)
- 1 week average: 66,732 (vs. 54,250 on 3/19)
- Yesterday: 72,777 (vs. 62,110 on 3/19)
As you can see my 3 month average has gone up but my day to day and weekly ranking has dropped a bit. I attribute this to not posting every single day. While I have maintained at least 1 post per day (in fact have averaged 1.28 posts per day since this blog’s inception on 2/14/08 - not including this post), I didn’t post everyday. There were a couple days I posted twice and a couple days I missed. Let this be a lesson - POST EVERYDAY!
- Technorati:
- Rank:81,766 (vs. 134,803 on 3/19)
- Authority: 85 (vs. 56 on 3/19)
Well, this is an improvement but not as big of one as I’d like to have seen. I need to get more blogs that are listed on Technorati to lank back to me and more people to fav my blog. I’ll work on this by being a little more active in the Technorati community.
- Backlinks according to Yahoo site explorer: 4,630 (vs. 3,128 on 3/19)
This is a nice improvement (although I was pretty happy with the number in the first place). I believe this will just continue to grow as I post more. The more content I have - the more there is available for people to link back to.
- RSS subscribers: 99 (vs. 81 on 3/19)
This is a bit disappointing. My goal for march was 100 readers, and while 99 isn’t far off, it’s not my goal. It also only an increase of 18 readers from my last report. I attribute the slower growth in not posting every single day.
- DNScoop.com valuation: $5,400
My DNScoop.com valuation is something I didn’t include in my last progress report but will moving forward. Feel free to check it out. Not only does DNScoop.com give you an estimation for your URL’s worth, but it also give details on: how old the domain name is, the Google PR, how many backlinks there are, Alexa ranking, and what a text link ad is worth on your site. I don’t know how accurate the valuation is, but it’s nice to get a sense of some monetary gain.
- IzeaRank
- today: 299
- This week: 362
IzeaRank (formally RealRank) is yet another way to see where you stand in comparison to other blogs. it’s a part of the Izea.com network and I don’t know how accurate it actually is. It seem like a good way to measure rank as they use a slightly different formula that Alexa or Google. Here a quote from their CEO:
Ted Murphy, Izea CEO:
The problem with Google PageRank is that it is both self serving and irrelevant to actual traffic and influence. The arbitrary and unpredictable nature of this ranking system has left both bloggers and advertisers longing for accurate statistical data since long before PayPerPost. Unfortunately, there are few options out there when it comes to determining the value of a blog. While sites like Alexa attempt to estimate traffic they are inaccurate and do a terrible job when it comes to blogs with smaller niche audiences.
I believe we have a solution and that solution is RealRank. RealRank data is gathered from the IZEA Toolkit “ITK” (formerly PPP Tools). It is a piece of javascript that many of you already have and those outside of PPP will be able to get from a separate site without joining PPP or SocialSpark. ITK gathers REAL traffic information, much like your analytics platform and ranks users based on their standing within the network. The formula is relatively simple.
70% weighted towards visitors per day
20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
10% weighted towards pageviews per day
Sound interesting and fair. We’ll see…
April Goals
One of my favorite blogs to read is Josh’s Unconventional Marketing Blog and I’m gonna steal an idea of his. I’m going to post my goals for April here and in my sidebar. I think this’ll help add to my motivation if I have to actually see my goals every time I look at my blog (and trust me, that’s a lot!). I think it will also add a bit of intrigue and help to keep readers coming back to see how I’m doing.
- Total Visitors for the month of April: 30,000+
- Total Page views for the month of March: 85,000+
Not only am I going to try to get more visits overall, but my goal is to make my site a bit stickier and receive more internal click, and thus more page views.
- Alexa:
- 3 mo. average: Less than 100,000
- 1 week average: less than 50,000
- Yesterday: less than 50,000
- Technorati:
- Rank: better than 50,000
- Authority: 120+
- Backlinks according to Yahoo site explorer: 8,500+
- RSS subscribers: 150+
- DNScoop.com valuation: $8,000+
- IzeaRank: hmm, they’re new to me so I don’t know just how to set my goal for them. Let’s say top 200 for now…
That’s it for this month’s progress report! Please feel free to help me achieve April’s goal by subscribing to my RSS and stopping back by as often as you can! Thanks!

If you depend on link or site selling as a form of monetization you’ll definitely want to increase your http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa rank, because it’ll increase your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.
