The one thing you need to be successful - guaranteed.

May 19th, 2008 · 13 Comments · All

The most important thing you need to do is…

Throughout my life I’ve had my share of successes and and I’ve had my share of failures.  There’s one thing they both have in common and it’s something everyone has the ability to do.  It’s the simplest thing in the world and without it you’ll never fail, you’ll never succeed,  you’ll simply be condemned to stagnany.

You do it already every single day in one capacity or another and may not realize the importance of it’s impact. I can sum it up in it’s entirety in two words: TAKE ACTION.

Action: the one and only common denominator of ALL successful people

I’m always a bit discombobulated when I hear anyone say to me something like “man, that’s great that happened, you’re so lucky”, or “I wish I could do that”.  We’ll that fact is, is has nadda to do with luck and it’s more than possible they could do it too (whatever it is).  It has only to do with the fact I TOOK ACTION.  There was an opportunity I was presented with or an idea I had and the only reason anything came of it was because I took action on it.

Have you ever heard someone say they would love to win the lottery, how awesome that would be, and how lucky the winners are?  I have and I make a point of asking how often they buy lotto tickets.  Too often they’ll say ” well, never really”.  Well how likely do you think they are to win if they don’t take the action of buying a ticket?!? Not likely at all.  I can tell you with 100% accuracy they have a 0% chance of winning.  Those aren’t very good odds…

I believe most people fail to take action because of their fear of failure and I’ll agree, failing sucks.  Because of the action I’m always eager to take, I’ve failed plenty of times in my life.  In fact, I’d bet I’ve failed more times than most of the people that have said I’m lucky - and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t call failing luck.  Only the successes stand out (I know it feels like the whole world is watching when you bomb though - they’re not).

Failure’s a good thing too

What if a baby was afraid to fall while learning to walk? They’d be crawling to work as an adult, that’s what. You’ll never really learn, or at least the learning curve will be dramatically lowered if you don’t fail.  Failure is what causes you to re-think, learn, assess, and prevent that same thing from happening again in the future. In so many ways failure directly helps lead you to success.

No action = nothing. Absolutely nothing…

As you may have read in other posts I’ve done recently I’ve entered to be on the online reality TV show, Top Affiliate Challenge.  I’ve received several emails from well-wishers and supporters and a few of them caught my eye and prompted me to do this post. A couple emails I received said in one way or another “I wish I could do that too”.  Well guess what?  YOU CAN!  There’s nothing that really sets me apart from the authors of these emails.  They’re able.  They have the skills.  They seem to have the desire. The only difference; I took action on my desires, abilities, and skills.

The moral of this story is simple - TAKE ACTION, because without it absolutely nothing will happen to, or for you…

Ty……. I agree with you 100 percent! I read this quote from a book , about taking action. ” The world doesn’t pay you for what you know,it pays you for what you do” Also have you ever noticed that the last six letters of satisfaction is a-c-t-i-o-n. In Latin, the word satis means ” enough”. Guess the Romans understood clearly that enough action ultimately produces satisfaction. ;)

I always knew this to be a fact.
It just took me 40 years to apply it for real,to my
    life.
I use a story in my life as the example ” I wanted to go skydiving for 10 years and finally I did it for the first time on my 30th birthday.
What was the hardest part of this?
ANSWER: not jumping out,it was DRIVING THERE!
It took me an hour to get from the ground to the air and It took me 10 years to drive there:o
    17 jumps later,I’m so glad I did.
    cheers

    Mark,

I’m jealous. I want to go jump outta plane sooo bad. I’ve learned how to fly one, but it’s a whole different thing to jump out.

Props on having the balls to do something like that! ^:)^

Well written Ty! It’s great to see you doing something you love. You are right about taking action. Sometimes taking action can be scary when you haven’t worked out all the details yet.Listen to this guy. He’s a great partner, father motivational speaker. =d>

Nice clean piece of work Ty, interesting features, and as Dale Carnegie wrote many years ago “The purpose of education is action” (quotes from memory).

Great Post Ty! I agree that taking a chance is all it takes to make something happen in life. Unfortunately, a lot of people are afraid of taking risks and end up settling for far less than they could of imagined.

I always wanted to run my own business then one day I “took action”. Guess what? I now run my own business. As my buddies dad used to tell us, “There’s Talkers and There’s Doers.”
