Um, can you say lame ass?…
I can.
Usually Denver has an awesome fireworks display at Invesco field at Mile High (a.k.a. Mile High Stadium). Not this year. This year, although it was touted in the papers that there would be a grand fireworks display, it turned out the display was deliberately designed to amuse the people that were willing to PAY to see the show from within the stadium. If I wanted to see the fireworks from within the stadium I would of had to pay to go see the Outlaws Lacrosse game that happened prior to the display (and while I like Lacrosse, I don’t imagine I’d ever pay to see a game).
The fireworks were kept low, barely rising above the stadium’s rim. There wasn’t a single “standard” round of the typical BOOM type of flowering shower you’d expect to see at a 4th of July display. Mostly just “big boy” fountains. I mean I could have gotten better fireworks across the state line in Wyoming (alas, fireworks are illegal in Colorado) , and there was plenty of those going off in the parking lots and above the houses in the area we were perched to watch the show at. An area that provided an excellent viewing of last year’s display, and a show that was a million times better than this year’s.
It just really irks me that the city of Denver would contribute to the show’s cost while it was obvious it was for the benefit of the stadiums paying customers. So Denver foots the bill, rather, MY TAX DOLLARS foots the bill, and Invesco field gets paid. How anti 4th of July is that?!?
To illustrate my point, below is a picture from the “grand finale” and an image I captured of some kids’ fountains going off in the parking lot we were standing in to watch the display - which one looks more fun to you?

Now, I’ll admit the shot of the fireworks going off in the parking lot (image on the bottom) was with a moving camera, and is actually of two fountains (double exposure), so that adds to the streaking effect and provides a little more action, but as you can clearly see, the finale was WEAK.
Anyhoo, just wanted to say my peace. If you’re ever in Denver for the 4th I suggest you take the 15 minutes drive to Commerce City where the display is much better (we could see it in the distance - it was pretty good).
Well, I guess it was better than nothing…
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

I’m not sure how things stand your sideof the “pond” but over ‘ere in blighty (UK) we have a whole set of laws that makes mismanagment of public funds something that can be used by the little guy (you and me) to embarrise and even de-offic public officials. I imagine you have the right to make requests for information (we have a Fredom of Informatio Act) and an answer must be given. I’d look into it and see if the official that signed off on that can be exposed.
Happy 4th however…

I agree with your choice of words. “Lame ass” was right. That was the most pathetic, boring fireworks EVER! Nevermind the gas we wasted to get to and from with the traffic jams. I would have at least not been dissapointed if I had just stayed home with you.
