Like watching Movies and TV shows?

July 5th, 2008 · 4 Comments · All, video

Well so do I
Here’s the best resources for online streaming Movies and TV shows

I’m a huge fan of Movies, and I can’t get enough of those Discovery type TV shows (I’m also a fan of shows like American Dad, South Park, 30 Rock, and so on - comedy stuff).

While I’m a fan of the above mentioned I don’t have time to catch my fave shows on the boob tube, and my TiVo is already packed with good stuff I just can’t bare to delete.  How do I get to see the things I like? I watch ‘em online and at any moment I see fit!

Below are some Awesome resources for online Movies, TV shows, Music Videos, and other fun time killers. I must note the fact that I’m unsure of the legality of a couple of these resources, and imagine they maybe bending or outright breaking the law, at least here in the good ‘ole US of A. I’ll denote the ones I know to be 100% legal in the USA, and note the ones I don’t know about. And as a legal note: this is just for your information, please check the legality of these sites in the area in which you reside or are viewing from - use the ones I’m unsure of at your own risk.

The absolute best places for all your online Movie, TV, and Video watching needs

  1. Hulu.com - 100% legal and my favorite with out a doubt (the only one I need to use really). There are Hundreds of full length feature movies, Network and independent TV shows, video clips, and more.  The quality on hulu.com is second to none.  Hulu was founded in March 2007 by NBC Universal and News Corp, so you know it’s 100% legit and offers great content in regular AND HD formats.  With a steady Alexa ranking of 698 it’s one of the most popular legitimate Movie/TV site’s on the net. You can learn more at their about page.  Hulu = kick ass!
  2. TVShack.net - Prolly not legitimate.  On TVShack.net you can find hundreds of TV shows, Movies and more.  Very often you can actually see movies that are still in the theater, although the quality often sucks because they’re bootlegged “cam” versions.  Older movies and most all TV shows are usually of high quality.  The video are sometimes unreliable in term of consistent streaming (TVShack.net apparently just indexes the videos sources - lots of stuff from Youku.com).  If it’s out there, chances are it’s on TVShack.net
  3. FreeTVonline.com - legitimacy: 50/50.  This site doesn’t actually stream of serve anything, it’s actually just an advanced search tool to locate the links to streaming video across the WWW. When you find a video you want to see (TV show, movie, etc.) you will be taken from their site to the hosting site of the video you select.  Due to this quality can be totally random, but you can find almost anything your heart desires.
  4. wwitv.com (World Wide Internet TV) - 100% legit. This is a pretty cool site that offer the streaming video links, or links to the actual station of what I would guess to be the majority of TV stations in the world.  This is handy if you want to watch the news from a station in Brazil, or wherever.  There’s also quite a few local TV station in the US that stream their live broadcasts and wwitv.com is the place to find ‘em
  5. watch-movies.net - another sketchy site, legitamacy wise (although judging by it’s Alexa ranking of 249 it’s obviously super popular).  The site specializes Movies and usually has several versions (sources) of every movie indexed.  There’s pretty much everything you could ever think of indexed on this site, but reliability is 50/50 at best.
  6. veoh.com - Sketchy legally, but well designed and laid out.  Veoh.com uses their own on site media player to play both on-site and off-site content.  Easy to use and with a huge selection.  Their reliability is also pretty good as they do a good job of deleting stuff that is slow to play.
  7. YouKu.com - some legit stuff, mostly not though… YouKu is a Chinese based site that has a HUGE collection of movies, TV shows, and other videos.  This site has a chart busting Alexa ranking of 54, making it one of the world’s most popular video sites, or websites period.  Due to the lack of copyright enforcement in China this site has probably every movie and TV show ever made on it as well as user created videos that are original and poached from other site as well. The site is in Chinese, but can be translated using a service like Yahoo’s Babel fish, or translate.google.com.  Due to legal issues this site is blocked in many countries and on some ISP’s in the USA.
  8. Discovery.com - Yup, this is the Discover Channel network.  While the majority of the shows that are on the Discovery networks aren’t available, there are some ready to be viewed on demand.  Their selection changes every week or two, and it’s always one show from The Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet (three show, several episodes from all). The quality is superb and reliability is 100%. And um, yeah, this is likely 100% legal… lol
  9. Comedycentral.com - The link to the left will take you directly to the Comedycentral.com’s shows page.  Just click on a show you like in the Roll Call section in the middle left of the page and you can see tons of clips and in many cases full episodes of their most popular shows (Full episodes of South Park, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report!)

I could go on, but with the above sites you won’t need anymore sources.  If it’s out there, you can find it on one of the links above!!! :)>-

They do a have a good selection of TV shows (CSI, CSI: Miami, The Tick, The original Star Trek, Married… With Children, Twin Peaks, and several more - not too many new shows though). However, I’m not a huge fan of Joost, just because it requires a download of a proprietary media player. If you don’t mind downloading their player, then give ‘em a shot for sure. And they are 100% legal!!!

Hulu sadly only streams to US Residence, it’ll probably work if I connect to the website using a proxy server.:-?
